31 Days of Kindness: December Random Acts of Kindness Challenge

by Tru and Well

December is here and the holidays are right around the corner! If you’re looking to get into the spirit of giving, look no further! We have a 31 Day challenge – a December Random Acts of Kindness Challenge!

The holiday season is a time of love and joy but for some, it can be tough. That’s why we want to encourage people to spread love and joy every single day through intentional acts of kindness. We’ve created a December random acts of kindness calendar with daily ideas of simple and easy kind acts.

Some of these ideas will require that you buy someone a coffee or donate some things. If you are unable to do so, feel free to replace one of these tasks with another idea or double up on a specific idea you like!

The goal of this challenge is to do something kind daily – it’s not to get strung up on following each day if it doesn’t work for you. Being flexible will also allow you to feel good about the daily activities and you’ll be more likely to follow through with the challenge.

If you want, feel free to share this with friends, family members, or co-workers! Tag us on social media, and let us know if you completed the challenge!

But Why December Random Act of Kindness and Why Should We Do Them?

Random acts of kindness are just as they seem – random and they are acts to show kindness for someone else. They don’t need to be super extravagant, and they can be as simple as smiling as someone. And when you smile at someone, they might smile at someone else because kindness can be contagious.

There have been various studies conducted on kindness and you’ll love to hear that there are mental and physical effects of being kind to others. Kindness stimulates serotonin, it can lower blood pressure, and can increase your positive mood which may decrease anxiety.

Now, let’s think about the benefits on the recipient’s end. A random act of kindness can completely transform someone’s day. In a study about the power of acts of kindness, givers and receivers felt happiness and the giver often underestimated how much of an impact the act would have.

You truly never know how much of an impact you can have on someone’s life by doing something so small. And when the recipient is treated kindly, it’s likely that they will continue to act out of kindness as well. It’s almost like a ripple effect or the domino effect because witnessing kindness encourages more kindness.

All in all, there are so many benefits to kindness. Knowing that we can positively impact people who need it most, why don’t we do these things more often? That’s where the December Random Acts of Kindness Challenge comes in!

The holidays can be very hard for some people and very wonderful for others. It’s a great time to give back, create kindness, and spread love when you can. Giving back and spreading kindness is also a form of self care!

The December R.A.O.K. Challenge Explained

The challenge is very easy to follow – 31 days, a simple act of kindness each day. You can print out the calendar, share it with friends, or ask a co-worker to do the challenge with you. We want this random acts of kindness challenge to be inclusive and available for all.

That being said, if you’re not in a place to spend money financially, you can double some of the acts of kindness that align most with you.

The true purpose of this challenge is to create the endless kindness ripple, to spread kindness to many people, and to feel stress free about it. So, if you need to change the days of an activity, or skip of the suggested activities and come up with your own – that’s totally fine.

Just remember – the only important thing that you’ll need to follow is doing at least 1 random act of kindness a day. If you want to turn it up and do 2-3+ a day, go for it! We aren’t holding you back and once again, we want you to make this your own.

We suggest that you print out the December Random Acts of Kindness Calendar or that you screen shot it on your phone and make updates to it daily. Once again, whatever works for you is totally fine. If you don’t have a printer, go for the mobile option or you can even use goodnotes if you’d like.

Also, if you’re still stumped on RAOK, it stands for Random Acts of Kindness. You might see some people call them RAK’s as well!

Final Thoughts

We hope that we’ve inspired you to demonstrate kindness in your daily life and if you enjoy this challenge, don’t stop there! Make it your mission to continue to be kind to people everyday.

A simple act of kindness goes so far – you never know who you might impact and what they might be going through. Also, when you think of the ripple effect of kindness, it’s so awesome that with one single act, your act might inspire hundreds of other kind acts.

If you like this idea, let us know! If you’d like for us to create monthly challenges, let us know as well! This December Kindness Calendar was the first that we’ve created but it was so fun!

You can also feel free to follow up on social media and share your progress with us – we will be so excited to hear about all the kindness you’re bringing into the world.
